Dinner With James Oseland Celebrating World Food: Mexico City

We are thrilled to welcome our friend + talented author, James Oseland, to Rose Farm on Friday, October 8th for an evening of cuisine under the stars celebrating World Food: Mexico City. Guests will enjoy a delightful meal prepared by James, while overlooking the beautiful gardens. James comes to us with extensive accolades + inspiring accomplishments.  He travels extensively in search of the world’s best restaurants, street food stalls, markets, and home cooks. He is the author and editor of World Food: Mexico City and World Food: Paris, part of World Food, a new book series from Ten Speed Press. He was the editor-in-chief for nine years of Saveur, America’s most acclaimed food magazine, where his work garnered many accolades, including seven James Beard Awards and three awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors. His cookbook Cradle of Flavor was named one of the best books of 2006 by the New York Times and Good Morning America. Additionally, James’s writing has appeared in Gourmet, Vogue, Food and Wine, and the Wall Street Journal, where he writes the “Cook’s Playbook” column. He has appeared on Celebrity Apprentice, the Today Show, Iron Chef America, and was a permanent judge on all five seasons of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. James is a popular cooking teacher and has taught at the Institute for Culinary Education, the New School, and New York City’s Natural Gourmet. He has lectured at culinary institutes and food societies around the world; in 2011, he delivered the keynote speech for the International Food Bloggers Conference. In 2013, he starred as himself in a series of Wendy’s commercials. He has lived in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and India, and now calls Mexico City home. At the conclusion of the evening, guests will take home a copy of World Food: Mexico City, a jar of fresh salsa + bag of French almond cookies. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will go to Wildwood Hills Ranch to fund food insecurity. This mission is dear to James’ heart as his father faced food insecurity his entire childhood. As former foster parents, Karri + Patrick Rose have also seen firsthand the impact of food insecurity. Guests are encouraged to bring a gift card from a favorite grocery store, or make a monetary donation to Wildwood Hills Ranch. Based in St. Charles, Iowa, Wildwood Hills Ranch is a non-profit youth development organization with a mission to bring hope and healing to Iowa’s most vulnerable youth. The Ranch provides educational instruction, leadership development, and equine therapy to hurting children each and every year.  This summer, they served 7,670 meals to nearly 600 students which is especially vital given that over 70% of the youth we serve are food insecure.
